Just about a hundred kilometers from amchi Mumbai lies a quaint little beach getaway called Nagaon. A perfect destination to unwind during a languorous weekend.
On the road to h(e)aven
Get on the Mumbai Goa highway and stop at Hotel Karnala for a brief respite. The batata vadas/biryani/chai here are amazing. The owner of this idyllic restaurant is a very amiable bloke who will help you out with any details about the route and your destination. He would even suggest places to stay/things to do in Nagaon. Once you have refreshed yourself and feel free of the urban grime, hit the road again and at Vadkhal naka don’t turn left but keep going onwards toward Alibag. At the Jakat naka in Alibag you will find a left turn to lead you to heavenly Nagaon which lies just seven kilometers away. The narrow path that leads you in, is dotted with cottages on either side proudly displaying the sign, ‘MTDC approved’. Most of these cottages/resorts are operated/owned by Mumbaikars. Don’t be too surprised if one of them turns out to be someone from your neighborhood. You can stay at any of these cottages and be assured that the beach is never very far. At the most you would have to stroll down a sandy path for five minutes. The rates also uniformly hover around Rs.100/- per head per day for lodging. The rooms are generally clean and so are the toilets. Your food will be what the cottage owner eats. It will be cooked only after you place your order, in the owner’s kitchen, and that too at very reasonable rates. A fish curry rice with some green salad will not cost you more than Rs.sixty per head. So once you have decided which pillow you would like to rest your head on, you are ready to indulge! The invigorating air of the beach will beckon you to let yourself go, release all the urban stress and take that cool dip in the ocean.

The shells that dot the shore
The multi colored shells clustered on the shore are a revelation. Enjoy any which way you can on this primal beach resort in almost total privacy. It will leave you craving for more! On your cruise back, stop by again at Hotel Karnala for that amazing batata vada/biryani/chai and fortify yourself to get back to the daily grind.

I love getaway locations from big cities so this a hot tip for Mumbai. What a nice report with fantastic pictures. Most members will object to personal names mentioned in reports unless stated under the heading "Whats-really-great" or somewhere else, but that can be edited. The date-time-stamps are somewhat disturbing too - see the Forum: "Travel Photography" for tips. A report on a place like this could eventually be *****
