Long wanting to go and see the birthplace of rock and roll and retrace to the early days of the greats & to walk in Memphis and see the statue of WC Handy it was the time - now...

Well my travelling companion was 6 years old, she was the child from my first marriage The Mississippi Delta was shining like a National guitar. I was following the river down the highway through the cradle of the civil war. I was going to Graceland, Graceland, Memphis Tennesee… We arrived late, came via Tupelo, the birthplace of Elvis – a must en route – stayed in, a huge house (now a B&B) called the Castlery, on Poplar. My rock ‘n roll pilgrimage [with my 6 yr old daughter] had begun. The next day we were up early and got on the bus, heading for Graceland, took the Grand tour, which I recommend you do. How often was I gonna get to that part of the world. At Christmas time the house and garden is decorated in the way it was always done at Xmas. The Grand tour includes: the house and ending up through the gym and onto the Kings final resting place. Then back to the car museum, and all the other exhibits at the main reception. Then it was on to Sun Studios, with the Graceland bus – our driver telling us that on a hot summers night at around 1am he heads out on the hiway on his Harley Davidson, taking the slipway, leaning down low – into the corner and accelerating out, almost scraping the pedal as he goes through the corner…. We went via Baptist Memorial hospital, the shade blind always half down, in the room where Elvis was taken on that fateful morning. At Sun Studio a guy with big ‘Elvis’ sideburns and 70’s sunglasses took us on our tour. We bought some souvenirs from the shop, as we did at the Mansion. Back on the bus, to Beale Street. Late in December, and quite chilly, it was a bit quiet. Spent happy hour in one of the many bars. My daughter had a Sprite with real cherries & cherry juice. I settled for a beer… Later we took a ride on a street car – down Main Street. Early the next morning, before sunrise we rolled out of Memphis – our rock pilgrimage done. We were en route to Nashville, home of Country Music and then on to Lynchburg….

I thought that the start of your report was rather clever but it ran out of steam. More info would be great and where are the piccies? |

Lets hope your daughter likes Elvis too! :-) There must be much more too see in Memphos than just Graceland. You have chosen to concentrate on R&R, which is very brave of you. |

Your introduction promised an interesting report (although I am not certain of all of your facts). However, the remainder of the report had no body. You might consider filling the last three sections with just as much information as the first. Also, some photos, please.

A really interesting intro but then you seem to give up. You can get a much better grading by some more thought about other sections, even if you've got no photos. Just remember some of us ONLY know what You tell us. |
