A day trip to Luxor

Luxor travelogue picture
Luxor is a real treasure. Since I was there on a day trip, I didn't get to see almost anything of the town, but some of the most important historical sights were covered. If you are traveling to Luxor during the summer, be prepared for heat. I was there at the end of July and the temperature was 50*C. Make sure that you bring lot's of water, wet towels, hat and sunblock. My suggestion is that you don't go sleeveless and in shorts, because you could end up with sunburns.

Favourite spots:

We have visited Colossi of Memnon, two outstanding figures which are all that is left of once the biggest temple in whole Egypt, than Hatshepsut's Temple, Valley of Kings, Karnak Temple and Luxor temple.

What's really great:

I loved everything that I saw there, but my favorite spot in whole Luxor was Hypostile Hall in Karnak Temple. Those beautiful pillars amazed me and once I entered the hall, I started whispering for no perticular reason. It just seemed natural to me...

Sights:

This picture shows a scene on a wall of Luxor Temple, the part of it that is dedicated to Alexandar The Macedonian. Karnak and Luxor Temple were once connected with a colonade of Sphinx that was 3 km's long..

Restaurants:

We had lunch in a restaurant on the bank of Nile river. The restaurant was Anubis and the food was delicious.

Other recommendations:

Luxor is famous for alabaster. Our guide took us to a factory, which is actually just a shop that sells alabaster objects that can be handcrafted or industrial. In front of it, some men were sitting crafting the alabaster... It is interesting and yet very touristy.
