Kunming is a really great city lost in the middle of the unnan province. Relaxed and quiet city to enjoy because you can find there not so much people, not so crowded to be in China, pubs, discos, relativetly western way of life, temples to visit in and out the city, the old quarter, good restaurants and it is an operations center before to enter in the real old China of the Yunnan.

Favourite spots: |
The bamboo temple is really nice, out of the city, a little bit far, but the temple, the bamboo area and the monks life and religion is great. The old mosque inside the city is also interesting to see the muslism influences in China. The Halong Tan park is absolutely amazing, with some temples and palaces ... and the natural hood-park in a Chinesse style is so nice!!

What's really great: |
The old market inside the old quarter is nice but still unsafe so take care. A walk from the train station till the zoo will take you all the day looking a lot of pagodas (Xi si Ta and Dong si Ta), old streets, markets (The birds market is really nice), the mosques , etc... till the zoological (Not really recommended!) and the green park.

Sights: |
A great tip:
Don´t use taxis there, they are rippers.
The public transport in Kunming is really good and you can use the bus to go everywhere except to the Bamboo temple where you must get the public bus and a private minivan where you can´t go further.

Accommodations: |
The best for me is the KunHu Fandian at Beijing Lu (Going North from the Train or Bus stations) is a big red building plenty of dormitories for 25 Yuen Renminbi and 4 beds. (Shared bathroom)
There are also the Camelia Hotel (Chahua Binguan) where you can find also the Lao Embassy and dormitories for 30 Yuen.
his last one is well located in a very good restaurants and pubs area.

|
Nightlife: |
At Dongfen Lu or Tuodung Lu there are a lot of nightlife, clubs, pubs, bars, strange asian sex clubs, etc...
Also at the other side of Beijing Lu in front of the Kunhu hotel there are other clubs and nightlife.
|
|
Hangouts: |
The Camel pub, the backstreet pub, the Black bear, the old pub are some examples of good pubs with cheap Tsingtao Bier and good rock and roll music (No more techno!!!!).
|
|
Restaurants: |
I taste there the famous across the bridege noodles in a restaurant in Tuodong Lu but you can find it at some Chinesse restaurants there.
This noodles are really famous in Kunming and have an espectacular presentation at the table. (Like a Volcano!!!)

Other recommendations: |
There are lot of banks of China, a great post office, and all the big cities facilities. no problem there.
