Dawson is located in the heart of the Yukon Territory, Canada. It is a frontier setting and you are on the edge of the middle of nowhere. The city has incredible charm and offers a lot of FUN activities.

Favourite spots: |
A well known poet from Scotland, Robert Service spent many years in this area and Alaska. He wrote about the pioneer days and the gold rush of the late 1800's. A cabin he lived in is in Dawson and every night during the summer a man recites Robert Service poems for tourists. He tells about Service and gets very dramatic while he recites.

What's really great: |
I enjoyed the midnight sun, the wilderness, moose, birds, fishing, hiking, anything outdoors you could want. It is also against city code to build a structure looking like anything modern so the whole town is just like you are there at the turn of the century! This is a picture of a gold dredge from the early 1900's. Ground is dug and the dredge is built in the hole. The hole is then filled with water and gigantic shovels dig away at the ground, sorts out the gold, dumps the earth behind it, and actually moves at a rate of about 100 meters a year (or less). They were so loud that you could hear the dredges working from 8 miles away.

Lots of fun pubs and one of the best things is, gambling is legal! There are full fledged casinos that look just like those of a hundred years ago. You can also see can-can girls dancing in several shows throughout town.
