Chicago - the city of art, architecture and blues. Chicago is situated in the heart of the middle west at the Lake Michigan. It´s the hometown of skyscrapers. Until a few years the Sears Tower was the highest building in the world. The O`Hare Airport is the busiest worldwide. The city has an excellent train system. Each ride costs 1,50 $. It´s even secure to get by train from the airport to downtown (40 minutes). Opposite to other US cities you can discover downtown very good on foot. Downtown is very secure even at night.

Favourite spots: |
The best first impression you can get by a walk at the lakefront: from the north at Lincoln Park to the south at the Soldier Field stadium. In the middle of this way there is the Navy Pier, an amusement area where you can rent a bike for example. At the south end of this way at the balcony of the Field Museum of Natural History or even better on the other side of the harbour you can take the best photos of the skyline. At the lake there is the Grant Park with the Buckingham Fountain - a perfect foreground with the skyscrapers behind. The way back you can use the Michigan Avenue. There are some of the famous skyscrapers along this way. The northern part of this street across the Chicago River is called Magnificent Mile: there are the designer shops like Tiffany, Gucci and Chanel and some exclusive shopping centers. From the John Hancock Center you have a fantastic overlook. The heart of downtown is called The Loop, it´s built by the El, the elevated trains. Here are many sculptures.

It`s a city with a fantastic skyline: from the John Hancock Center in the north to the Sears Tower in the south. It´s a fantastic place for walking: at the Lake Michigan there is an excellent sidewalk for pedestrians, bikers and skaters. At the Navy Pier you can rent a bike. At the Lakefront there is the Grant Park that means a lot of green. The city has an excellent train system: each ride costs 1,50 $. Most important: no reason to be fearful.

Accommodations: |
Like in every big city hotels are very expensive downtown. As Chicago has a good train system you can choose a hotel a little bit outside close to a train station. I stayed at a Days Inn hotel at Lincoln Park. A train station is only 0,5 Mile away and it`s only 2 miles to the north of downtown.
