Port Washington North - United States, New York Sands Point is the wealthiest by far and most prestigious of the nine villages comprising the hamlet of Port Washington on the north shore of Long Island, made famous as Little Egg in the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel 'The Great Gatsby ". At the center lies the Sands Point Preserve comprised of two castles, gardens and cliffs overlooking the water, nature trails, ponds, and gardens.
Howard Gould, son of railroad tycoon, built Castle Gould as a residence modelled after the Kilkenny Castle in Ireland. The Mrs. did not like the castle so it became a stable and servant's quarters. The interior is not open to the public.
