It's always great to go back to the serene scenery of Bodensee (in German) or Lake Constance!!! This lake (alt.: 395 m) at the northern foot of the Alps between the borders of Germany, Austria and Switzerland has a shoreline of 273 km which bikers enjoy to circle on nice paths near to the water. The young Rhine river flows through the lake on its long way to the North.
Because of a mild climate the region is a wonderful garden full of fruits, vegetables, wine and flowers and the lake also is well-known for its fish. By the way, it is a very important drinking water source for southwestern Germany.
A lot of historic and cultural sites provide a pleasant time for visitors: prehistoric pile dwellings (in Unter-Uhldingen), mediaeval towns, monasteries and churches, castles, interesting museums (the Zeppelin museum in Friedrichshafen, e.g.) or former homes of celebrities (like the author Hermann Hesse's house in Gaienhofen for example) and much more are good for some diverting hours.
This June, we only had two days there w/o an extensive tourist programme. We stayed in Bodman in a house directly at the water and just enjoyed to be there with all senses (although swimming was a short pleasure with a water temperature of 16°C... ;-))
