This is the most loved tree in the whole of Russia, the birch. When the Russians travel abroad for a long time they missed it.

Why do the Russians love the birch tree?

picasso - Feb, 01 2007 04:02pm
Because birch tree is Russian landscape, and Russian soul.Even old Russian fairytales paintings and songs are associated with this tree.Russians even drink birch tree juice, collected from a young tree

Jorge, is the tree with the yellow leaves a birch too? For my understanding birches are the ones with the white bark to the right hand side of the picture. But the yellow seam to be the main subject

horourke - Feb, 02 2007 05:02pm
of course you are right!!

jorgesanchez - Feb, 02 2007 07:02pm
Martin/Hugh. Yes, that is one of the characteristics of the Beriozka (Birch tree), but the bark becomes black when the birch gets old. The leaves acquire an intense yellow colour in autumn.

jorgesanchez - Feb, 02 2007 07:02pm
Russians prepare with the sap homemade wine. I have finished my quota of pictures for this month and can not upload more Birch tree pics, but in my new profile picture I show you another beriozka.
