Hi to all of you. Salâm.
After 36 years on this little earth time has come for me to fulfill one of my many dreams : go to Persia and see the treasures of Esfahân.
Short but intense for a first come, no more than 10 days between around July 22nd and August 2nd.
Here it is I will take a plane to Teheran then move to Chirâz.
After that my goal is to follow the Zagros montains till Esfahân, with a first step at Persepolis, and a few stops like Khosrow Shirin and Semirom.
As I lack time I would have liked to get a quick but friendly mean of travel such as :
- an off-road motorcycle (I can't bring mine for such a short time),
- a mountain bike (not so easy to bring mine from Paris).
But it seems that there's no way to get one in Iran (maybe could you give me some info on these?).
- last solution will be my legs and local transports (even if I have rather good results at marathon, running so long will be hard).
Well, I'm ready to take any advice for this trip. Help will be welcome!
PS : I haven't searched yet. Is there a good web tool to write in farsi on this forum?

Hi Nicolas,
Whatever mode of transport you will pick, you will enjoy the trip. Public transport is very well organised across Iran, and the coaches are comfortable, air-conditioned and fast. They run between all large cities. Then, you could pick up taxis to go to more remote places like Persepolis - there are some really very good deals that you can negotiate. I did, and I was very happy with that. Have a look at some of my reports on Iran on this site.
If you would like first hand advice, please contact a number of active members from Iran. You can contact some of my globo friends:
shervin19 (Bagher)
ashkan (Ashkan)
shervin18 (Saeid) - I have not seen Saeid for a while though
farnaz (Farnaz)
There is also our first globocouple from Iran, who will be able to help you also in Farsi. But please refrain from communicating in Farsi via the guestbook tool, as members from other countries will not be able to benefit from that. Instead, please use 'mailbox' tool, which allows for private conversation between members.
Kindest regards

Question for today : cartography (maps)
As to realize my trip from Chirâz to Esfahân through the Zagros mountains (see beginning) I've been looking for accurate maps of the area.
For now I've found for free and been able to print the excellent soviet cartography*, scale 1:200 000, of the area. Sure the road network is certainly a little bit outdated (they were published in 1981) and I have to learn the cyrillic alphabet pronounciation (not so hard), but it provides a excellent view of the relief (thanks to the orange contour lines) and an exhaustive toponymy (place names), plus rivers and small paths...I can also had that it has geographic positions marks (longitudes and latitudes) allowing basic use of GPS (always get a good estimate of your position) in addition to pocket compass!
I would like to get an fârsi map of the area, but I will certainly buy it once in Iran as internet resellers are far too expensive to my taste!
If anyone has any good info on local maps (available scales and local prices), I'm interested!
