Jufureh - boats at the bank
Jufureh and Albreda, two small villages on the northern bank of the river Gambia, receive an unusual number of tourists because of certain book by Alex Haley. The author thought of a black boy, Kunta Kinte, kidnapped by the white Europeans who turned him to a slave, and the slave trade kicked off.

Although the book might have been based on facts and the history of the terrible slave trade, it is a fictitious story and yet people believe that Kunta Kinte really existed and that his descendants still live in the village. There is a small museum in Jufureh, and one can visit the real Kinte family. The villages are also the gateway for visiting the UNESCO listed James Island. [edit text]  [editors]
